Spotted Seatrout
Description:
An elongated fish with two dorsal fins and a pointed snout. The fish is silver in color with darker shades of grey on the back. Black spots are distributed throughout the back. This is a traditional
tropical marine sport fish, described as a table favorite.
Natural Ecology:
Spotted seatrout is a carnivore of fish and invertebrates.
Indigenous To:
The Atlantic coast of North America, from New York to Florida and Gulf of Mexico.
Behavior:
This species is not aggressive, but is a predator. Relatively solitary individuals.
Compatability: Usually ignores corals, but will eat fishes and crustaceans. Also grows large, with an output of dissolved wastes that puts a burden on water quality maintenance.
Food: Proaquatix specimens have been weaned to take aquarium pellets and flakes. Freshly frozen invertebrates such as ocean plankton, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and chopped squid will be readily accepted.
