Royal Gramma
Description: A basslet that is bisected in two colors, with its anterior being purple and its posterior being yellow. A black line runs through the eye and a black eye spot is located on the anterior dorsal fin.

Natural Ecology: This species forms harems, where multiple females occur within a male’s defended territory.

Indigenous To: Bermuda, Bahamas, along the Atlantic shore of Central America southward to Venezuela and eastward to the Lesser Antilles.

Behavior: Often seen near an area where a quick retreat into the rocks is possible. Males exhibit territory defense toward other males. When eggs are present, the male will attack even large fishes of other species if they venture near the eggs. The threat is rarely persistent once the intruder retreats.

Compatability: Usually ignores corals and most invertebrates.

Food: Proaquatix specimens have been weaned to take aquarium pellets and flakes. Freshly frozen invertebrates such as ocean plankton, mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and chopped squid will be readily accepted.
